Memory verse: For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech. 1 Peter 3:10
If there is one part of our lives that need to be managed carefully, that is our tongue. Our tongues can produce bitter or sweet flavour to our lives; depending on how it is being used.
Though a very little part of the human body; the tongue has much power to direct the cause of events in our lives. God made the heaven with a spoken word; the bible also tells us that, we are created in God’s image. Thus, the words we speak out are seeds which bring forth whatsoever we sow into it.
Many lives have washed down the drain because of the misuse of the tongue. People bring curses and destructions upon themselves as a result of negative proclamations. Are you one of them? Do you engage your tongue in unfruitful discussions, swearing with your life, cursing others, using offensive/destructive words? I enjoy you to have a change of attitude today.
We see occasions where even some professing Christians engage their tongues in idle talk and careless languages. Should sweet and bitter water flow out from the same source? Be mindful also; of the state of your heart for the tongue only speak out what is in the heart.
“Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be’ James 3:10
Meditate on this:
The true test of a man’s spirituality is not his ability to speak, but rather his ability to bridle his tongue.” – R. Kent Hughes
