JULY 31, 2017 – Jesus: Our Model

The one who says he abides in Jesus ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked. 1 John 2:6 Modeling our lifestyle after someone implies portraying the characteristics of the individual. As Christians, our standard model is Jesus Christ. Therefore, being a Christian means being Christ-like, that is, living out the lifestyle of Jesus. The word Christian was first mentioned in Antioch when Paul the apostle and other disciples of Jesus were preaching the gospel. There, the disciples were called Christians because; their lifestyle and general characteristics represented that of our Lord Jesus. As they preached the gospel and embarked on their daily businesses, the life of Christ was seen in them. Most times, we can say that a child’s attributes and mannerism depicts that of his father or his mentor. This is so because; the child had carefully emulated his father or mentor’s lifestyle as the case may be. On the other hand, a tree is known by the fruits it bears. We can differentiate one tree from another not necessarily by its leaves but; by its fruits. A mango tree cannot bear an apple fruit neither would a lion give birth to a puppy. As much as it is with nature; so it is with the life we live as Christians. However, it is quite unfortunate that some believers need to introduce their identity...

JULY 28, 2017 – LORD; LET YOUR WILL BE DONE.

Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done. Luke 22:42 Jesus on the Cross of Calvary wished that the cup of death will pass Him by; seeing the great pains that lied ahead. Looking up to heaven, He nevertheless cried out; not mine will, but your will be done. Giving way for God’s will to be done in our lives is absolutely a bitter pill to swallow. It is easier most times to profess it or wish it could happen, but the glaring reality of carrying it out is...

At every point in life, people are being tempted, irrespective of their status or belief. God is not an author of temptation as against the popular misconception. Temptation comes from satan. It might interest you to know that, there are objects of temptations everywhere....

JULY 24, 2017 – TRIAL OR TEMPTATION? (1)

Knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. James 1:3-4 Trials and temptations are words which are often used interchangeably but they do not connote the same thing. While trial is concerned with building our faith in God, temptation aims at destroying the Christian’s faith and relationship with God. Trial means test. It tests our faith and dependence upon God especially during challenging periods. It is practical. Just like students are tested at the end of each term to ascertain their knowledge...

JULY 21, 2017 – LAY DOWN YOUR HEAVY LOAD

Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved. Psalm 55:22 A certain man was driving through a long lonely highway. On the way, he saw an old woman struggling with heavy baskets of fruits and vegetables, which she possibly harvested from a nearby farm. Seeing the old woman and the great trouble she was going through, the man reversed and offered to give her a ride. “Which way are you heading to?” he asked with a smile. “To the city market” replied the old woman. “Let me...
