Text: …and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. (Luke 23:  44, 45)

It was indeed a dark and gloomy day after the crucifixion of Jesus. The whole earth stood still, there was uncertainty everywhere. Christ’ disciples and other people that followed Him from Galilee were in despair because, their Master, their only hope, the Lord who cared for them had been unjustly crucified.

Following His death, the disciples of Jesus moved about dejected and retired to their homes with heavy hearts. None of them even had faith that Jesus will rise again just as He said. To their carnal understanding, the chances were actually slim as a heavy stone was used to cover His tomb while guards watched over where He was buried.

The same fate of hopelessness that the disciples of Jesus and His friends experienced after His crucifixion is applicable in many lives today. They’ve lost all possible means of rising again. Their lives are in shambles, their faith is weathered and there seem to be darkness everywhere they go. The promises of God mean less to them at this period of their lives. Unbelief lurks around their dark corner and gives no way for them to see the rising sun.

Are you experiencing a dark period in your life? It could be joblessness, the death of a loved one, scarcity, childlessness, sickness or persecution. I want to encourage you to keep the faith alive. Sometimes, life gets very slippery and uncertain but we are not to give up. The best thing to do at this time is to understand that, for every beginning, there is an ending. Whatsoever promise of God you are believing, keep trusting it for God is able to do as He has promised. Jesus was not held down in the grave, likewise, you will not be held down in your dark period.

Carefully consider the following:

God is faithful: No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13

Give your burdens to God: Casting all your burdens upon Jesus for He cares for you. – 1Peter 5:7

When you are weak, God is strong: My grace is all you need, for my power is greatest when you are weak.–2 Corinthians 12:9

Jesus will not fail you: God has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you. Hebrews 13:5

God will strengthen you: Those who trust in the Lord for help will find their strength renewed. They will rise on wings like eagles; they will run and not get weary; they will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

It shall all end in praise: When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. – Psalm 126:1

Meditate on this:  Dark days don’t last forever. There will be sunshine in the morning.
