Text: I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate. Romans 7:15(NLT)

Sometimes, you find yourself doing those things you swore never to do right? It happens to everyone at some point. Many people in this category struggle to live right, they struggle to keep up the faith and they struggle to maintain their relationship with God. Everything is all about struggle to them.

I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do…As it is, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me…For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out… For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do, this I keep on doing. Romans 7:15-20.

Maybe your own plight is that, after confessing your sins to God, promising Him you will never be part of it, you unconsciously see yourself indulging in such practices again and again? Does it ring a bell?

You are a servant to anything you choose to obey whether good or evil, it is your choice. You own your television at home and can decide to change its channel as you will, so it is with the cage of sin. When your life is under the dominion of sin, it controls your actions as it wills. If you don’t enjoy the position you are in, then it is time to demand for a change in authority.

The change will begin from your heart. When king David fall into the sin of adultery and murder of Uriah, he realized it was the nature of sin which dwelt in him that influenced it because, he couldn’t control his desires. Then he cried out in Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me”

Having a cleansed heart begat a heart of God. When your heart is right with God, He will give you the power to overthrow the strategies and snares of the devil. Satan is very cunning and has many crafty ways of manipulating people but, when you depend on the grace and strength of God, you will live an overcoming life that you desire.

Meditate on this:

When you are weak, God is strong. Depend on Him to overcome sinful habits.
