Nehemiah 8:10 … for the joy of the Lord is your strength.
To be effective in achieving set goals, experts advice that we first discover and then master our inner, natural abilities otherwise known as strength. We are created with different capabilities. Some are good in singing, while others are good in talking and so on. God has made us different and with good reasons too. Take David in the bible for example, In 1 Samuel 16:18, we see a catalogue of his different unique abilities in display.
” Then answered one of the servants, and said, behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning (gifted) in playing and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the Lord is with him”.
Think of that. Gifted in playing, a mighty valiant man, a man of war, prudent in matters, a comely person. In fact, David was so good in playing the harp, that he drove evil spirits away from King Saul. Despite those great qualities, in 2 Samuel chapter 11, the bible records that one evening, after every soldier had gone to battle, David rose from his bed and walked on the roof of his house. There, he saw a woman bathing naked, you know the rest of the story. David, the great man who could drive demons out with an instrument, the one that slew Goliath with only a slingshot, would eventually commit adultery and murder. But the story did not just end there. We were also told that, David was a man after God’s own heart. How could God choose such a person, let alone identify with him? Because, David learnt to capitalize on his strengths and not his weaknesses.
Every man has his/her own strengths and weaknesses, including you. First, it is an issue of discovery, then focus. Every recovery in life, demands making a discovery, and what you focus on, you enlarge. For example, the bible is a book of visions. To recover any missing treasure in your life, you have to make personal discovery of the provisions therein. The question is, what do you see? David was joyful; hence he could not see any defeat or failure though he had many reasons to worry. The reason most people get depressed and eventually give up in life is not because they lack strength, but because they can’t visualize tomorrow.
Let me say it at this point that joy is different from happiness. Happiness is controlled by the circumstances of now, while joy solely depends on revelation of God’s word concerning you as contained in scriptures.
Please allow the Holy Spirit to blind your inner eyes to the things that are happening around you, which includes, your past failures, marital delays, joblessness, indebtedness, homelessness, etc. And let him open your inner eyes to what God is doing. The cheapest way to win that battle you are facing right now is through joy, so give it what it takes. In case you haven’t yet discovered your natural strength, be confident in the fact that joy is strength. You don’t need all your problems to be over before you can be joyful. You can be joyful irrespective of your troubles.
