As newborn babies, desire the sincere milk of the word that you may grow thereby. 1 Peter 2:2

When a person establishes a relationship with God at the point of salvation, there is need for a corresponding spiritual growth. For example; as a child is being born into the world, provisions are made by the parents for appropriate feeding, to avoid death. Likewise, God has made adequate provisions for His children’s spiritual sustainability. This time; through reading the word of God – The Bible.

The bible is God’s message to mankind. It contains the mind of God, the will of God and principles that guide our daily Christian living. It is instructive, inspiring, comforting, with a wholesome nugget that refreshes the life of every Christian. The word of God is food to the soul and life to everyone that lives thereby. Reading the bible gives spiritual strength and energy because; the bible is the Bread of Life.

Growing spiritually through reading the word of God can be explained this way; imagine a person who stays without food or water every day for weeks and months, what do you think will happen to the fellow? He will become so feeble and faint or can even die of malnutrition. In a related vein, when a farmer plants a crop and leave it without watering it or adding manure, the plant will whether and die. That is what happen when Christians stay without the word of God. They become so powerless and weak spiritually that, they end up being spiritually dead.  As a result, they will be pushed around by satan as it pleases him.

If you have a relationship with God but do not devote time to enrich your soul with the word of God, you are heading for a spiritual crash. Satan will do everything within his means to ensure a child of God does not read his bible. He will distract you and keep you unnecessarily busy because, it is only by becoming empty of the word that, he can launch attacks against your life.

Be sober and be vigilant. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:10. Temptations abound everywhere in all corners, only a good infilling of the word that will keep you victorious. The question is, how often do you read your bible? Have you read it today? The word of God is vital and a potent weapon in our world today. By speaking the word, Jesus overcame the temper devil on the mountain by saying; “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'”Mathew 4:4. If satan was not afraid to tempt Jesus, then who is an ordinary human being that he cannot tempt? Only through the word can you gain victory.

This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success. Joshua 1:8 The benefits of studying the word of God cannot be overemphasized. Apart from spiritual back up against satan, it provides wisdom in making wise decisions and engaging in profitable ventures. King David in Psalm 119:105 says “Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light on my path.”

If you are desirous of growing in the knowledge and understanding of the Almighty God, it is time to include reading the bible as part of your daily schedule. Just the way you ensure you eat balanced diet daily for your physical well-being, read the bible daily for spiritual stability and growth.
