Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:7
Several definitions have been given to prayer by different bible scholars. To me, prayer simply means communicating with God. That is, prayer is a two-way exercise whereby there is a sender and a receiver. This is another powerful ingredient to spiritual growth.
Prayer being a form of communication builds our relationship with God. It is a moment of fellowship between The Almighty God and His dear children. It is conversational with an intention of drawing us closer to God daily. It connects us to God while we pour out our souls to Him. If a husband and wife who are in love experiences a break in their communication, what do you think will happen? There sure will be disconnection between them.
Praying becomes monotonous when its sole intention is to RECEIVE from God during times of need and distress. So many Christians are guilty of this. Their prayers are only targeted towards what they stand to gain from God, whereas, God desires us to fellowship with Him in prayer. Instead of waiting for the time you will run into trouble before you will begin to pant and pray to God, why don’t you establish a strong connection with God so you can stand miles ahead of satan?
Have you wondered why God said King David was a man after His own heart? David was always in constant fellowship with God The Father. You too can establish the same kind of closeness and true communion with God through prayer.
Jesus Christ is a model for us to emulate in praying. The scripture states in Mathew 14:23 “And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there.” In several instances in the bible, Jesus separated Himself from the people, went aside and prayed. We need to get away from the endless hassles of life; distractions from the social media, cell phones, involvement in idle talks and concentrate on building a long-lasting relationship with God. Have you prayed today? Do you connect with God daily?
Prayerlessness is a sign of spiritual weakness. Satan can do anything to keep a Christian from praying because he knows the benefits therein. His motive is to cut off that precious relationship that is built and established when a believer is in consistent fellowship with God. Satan’s strategy is to keep believers far away from God so he can wrap up their souls in hell. Would you allow that?
God longs for a deeper relationship with His children. There are messages and revelations that God prepares to pass across to His loved ones all the time alas, they are never available to receive them. If a son is not always communicating with his father as he ought to, how will he receive instructions pertaining to life and a key to His father’s assets?
Dear child of God, you need to make prayer a part of your daily life if, you desire to grow in the knowledge of your father in heaven. Prayer is resourceful, prayer binds us with the Living God, prayer paves way for revelation and, it builds our faith and confidence in Christ.
What is your prayer life like? Are you connected with God?
Dear Lord, please strengthen my spirit and my prayer life. Pour in your zeal into me that I shall earnestly fellowship with you in prayer, in Jesus name, amen.
