But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. John 14:26

The presence of the Holy Spirit in the life of a Christian determines spiritual growth. The Holy Spirit is a part of the Trinity – Father, Son and The Holy Ghost. He is a personality, not an object. He lives in the heart of a believer from the point of conversion. That is to say that, when a person receives Jesus into his or her life, there is a measure of the Holy Spirit that immediately takes place in the heart of such an individual.

Before the ascension of Jesus Christ, He promised to send a Comforter to His disciples that will help them all through their spiritual journey here in the world. That Comforter who was sent in the stead of Christ is The Holy Spirit, which we can also refer to as The Spirit of God. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth…John 14:15

We live in a complicated world.  As believers, we need The Holy Spirit at all times to lead us right. The guidance of the Holy Spirit can be likened to a driver, a car and a compass. You (a Christian) are the driver, your life is the car and The Holy Spirit is the Compass. A compass is being programmed with location features that will help the driver navigate around an unknown area with ease. Its duty is to direct the driver to the right path. A compass is not forceful or manipulative. It only directs but can never impose its direction upon the driver. The driver chooses to either obey the compass or drive around blindly.

The above illustration is exactly how the Holy Spirit operates. He is there to ensure the believer moves on right path of life as He knows all things. Obedience to The Holy spirit enhances spiritual growth because, the more you obey Him, the more He reveals Himself to you and takes you to a higher spiritual height. You can grieve The Holy Spirit when you constantly disobey His direction in your life.

Amidst challenges and tribulations, The Holy Spirit is there to comfort believers. In times of inexplicable difficulties, He assures us that, things will surely get better. Have you been through any situation in life and people wonder how you are still managing to breath but you simply walk around courageously? That is The Holy Spirit strengthening and comforting you.

The Holy Spirit helps the believer to be more fruitful in the knowledge and understanding of God. He grants us divine understanding of the bible by bringing spiritual enlightenment to the deep meanings of the scriptures. Here are some of the many works of The Spirit of God in a believer’s life:

Acts 1:8 – But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Roman 8:26 – Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words

Galatians 5:22 – But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control

2 Corinthians 3:17 – Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

Do you have the Spirit of God dwelling in your heart? If you truly desire to know God more, then begin to seek for the deep infilling of the Holy Spirit in your life. He will come into your heart if you can invite Him right away.

Dear Lord, please fill me with more of your Spirit that I may grow spiritually everyday in Jesus name, amen.
