When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when you walk through the fire, you shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. – Isaiah 43:2
Fire is a necessary tool needed in our everyday life.
We warm up our homes during winter with fire. We cook our food with it, and at an industrial level, we melt heavy metals in fire to produce useful equipment, building materials, farming tools etc.
But, fire also has its liabilities.
Fire has caused perhaps more damages than any other natural phenomenon in history. Water drowns and washes away what comes its way but, fire utterly destroys anything that dares to stand in its way. An entire house can be razed down by fire in a matter of minutes.
Similarly, when we find ourselves in an uncomfortable situation, we often refer to it as “sitting in a hot seat”. Though there may not be any literal fire under the seat, the feeling we get can be compared to that of real fire.In this sense, a financial crisis can be a kind of fire.
We feel a sense of deep discomfort when we cannot meet our daily needs, pay for groceries, water, gas etc. Financial pressure may lead to marital problems and division in homes. Most married couples today are going through intense financial pressures. The global economic situation hasn’t made it easier. At times like this, we often feel alone, disappointed and helpless. Then frustration sets in and if care is not taken, depression follows suit. Why me? Is the question we often ask.
Interestingly, most people seek ways of forgetting their problems by indulging in drinking of alcohol, prostitution and others. Some others indulge into taking hard drugs which ultimately endangers their lives and health. Do not get me wrong, financial pressures are real and it can hurt us in many ways. But there is hope. Financial fire didn’t start today. In the Old Testament, we are told that there was famine in the land. The story of the widow of Zarephath in 1 Kings 17: 7-16 is illustrative in this regard.
Here is a woman whose husband had died, leaving behind nothing for them. It went further to say that, when the creditors came for their money, they demanded for her two sons in exchange for the money owed. How bad could that get? Have you found yourself in that sort of situation before? Then you are not alone. Great names in the bible faced similar fires.
Moses faced a fire experience when he killed an Egyptian who came to challenge an Israelite. The aftermath, he was branded a murderer and traitor. In the heat of the drama, he fled to the wilderness. David, the one that killed the giant called Goliath; the one after God’s own heart, faced his own fire. For most part of his life, David was running away from Saul who wanted to kill him. At a point, even his own people rejected him, but David encouraged himself in the Lord. Paul, the great Apostle who wrote two thirds of the new Testament, went through a fire experience.Above all, Jesus, the son of God went through a fire experience. He was stripped naked, whipped, wounded and finally nailed to the cross and left to die in a most cruel way. He cried out, Eli Eli, Lama Sabachthani, meaning “my God my God, why has thou forsaken me”. Fire is a lonely place, a place of despair and hopelessness, a place of lamentation, sorrow and pain.
Chances are that you are either going through fire now, or you will, sooner or later. The scripture says, “When you pass through the fire…
So, it is not a question of if’, but ‘’when’ ’If you are in the first category, that is, already in the fire, your top priority, I guess, is how do I get out of this fire? First recognize that everything was created by God, and that includes fire. Genesis chapter 1 verses 1 says, in the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth’ ’Then in John 1:1, it says, how he accomplished that.
“In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God, ALL THINGS WERE MADE BY HIM, and WITHOUT HIM WAS NOT ANYTHING MADE THAT WAS MADE.
So God created everything by his word. Therefore, everything created, must conform to the dictates of the word. When Jesus commanded Peter to lunch his net into the deep, the fishes heard him and so they had no choice but to come forth. Everything created must obey the One that created them. God sent a man called Moses, to deliver his children from the hands of the Egyptians. And he said, “I am the Lord, I change not’ ’Has God changed? Of course not.
Let’s see ways God manifested himself in the fire.
- SHEDRACH, MESHACK AND ABEDNEGO: You remember the three Hebrew boys who were thrown into a fiery burning furnace after they dared to flaunt the king’s orders. But they were supernaturally preserved by God. The fire could not consume them; there was no smell of fire on them. How? God stepped into the fire.
- PETER: Peter was kept in prison, awaiting his execution the following morning, but God appeared in the midst of the fire and delivered him. In the same way, I see God sending his Angel to quench that fire burning in your home, in your career, in your finances or in your marriage, in Jesus name. Amen.
So, beloved, you don’t have to be afraid of the fire, because God is with you right there in the fire. David said,” Even though I pass through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me”.
Perhaps you are saying, I am not in any fire, so how does this concern me?
Well, fire is no respecter of persons. There is fire burning in this world that we live, and to play ignorant, would be a dangerous mistake. The bible clearly states that darkness will cover the earth. (Isaiah 60:2) .You only need to observe what is happening around now to know that the prophecy of the scripture is coming to pass. There is a growing financial tension in the world today, money is failing in many places, the rich is getting richer, and the poor is getting poorer. A time will soon come when money will become worthless. This is not to scare you at all, but to state the obvious. The only way to take cover in the coming holocaust is to become a child of God.
“I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except by me”.
He also said:
‘’Come unto me, all you that are laboured and heavy laden and I will give you rest’’.
Which rest will Jesus give you? Rest from every form of fire; financial, marital, emotional, health, career etc.
You don’t have to die in that little corner; Jesus is here to save you. He has been through the fire, but He conquered it. It is never too late to be right. Come now and ask Him to come into your life and He will surely step in and save you. I tell you, when He takes over your situation, it is over.
THAT FIRE WILL NOT CONSUME YOU
