I watching the Diamond League (Sports Tournament for Athletes). Keenly, I saw as each athlete ran with so much zeal and focus to get to the finishing line before his/her competitors. Among all the different categories of sports that participated, the marathon runners got me deeply thinking. They ran, even when they were fainting, they persevered; they didn’t give up.
Similar to the persistence of the marathoners is the story of Gideon in his war against the Mideanites. The bible tells us that, even when Gideon and his men were exhausted, they continued to pursue their enemies until they (the Medianites) were sore defeated. And Gideon came to Jordan, and passed over, he, and the three hundred men that were with him, faint, yet pursuing them. Judges 8:4
Many things in life are lined up to wear one out from achieving life’ set goals. There are predators all about to hinder believers from getting to the finishing line. It gets more demanding each passing day. This weakens the heart and breaks the marrow. Many a times, the challenge comes from within – fear, discouragement, anxiety, weariness etc.
At such times when our strength and will power dwindles, we need Jesus because, on our own, we can do nothing. I will lift up my eyes to the hills, where will my help come from? My help will comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. Psalm 121: 1
