The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook. – (1 Kings 17:6)

It is still unthinkable how mere Ravens (birds) can be an instrument of economic supply in a time of famine. We might think of other possible means of provision, but Ravens? Surely not, it is unimaginable.

The land of Israel was in a terrible famine by the word of the prophet of God; Elijah. The land was dry, no sight of green leaves for animals to graze on, and the rivers were drying up. At that point in the land of Israel, people were only waiting for the day death will come upon them – it was a hopeless period.

However, God seeing the situation in the land of Israel at that time, created an avenue for Elijah, His prophet to be sustained in the midst of nothing. Why did God do that? Because, He promised never to leave nor forsake His own children. When your life is in alignment with God’s commands, He goes all out to ensure you are well taken care of.

The point here is, we have a God who understands every situation in our lives. He sees beyond that which we can see, and He makes sufficient and timely way out of every hopeless situation we might find ourselves in. For any kind of condition you might be in right now, God has designed a way out for you.

Who can ever imagine birds feeding a human being with bread? How do the birds know who Elijah is and that he was at that Brook of Cherith? Where did they get the bread from? That could only be the work of The Almighty God. By the time you come to the understanding that, God is unlimited in His thoughts and His ways, and that He possesses an amazing power, you will begin to see life from a different dimension. You will stop worrying yourself sick over little things and begin to trust in God who is able to do all things.

In the world today, there is a global economic crisis just like in the days of Elijah. Do you believe that the same God who directed the ravens to feed Elijah is able to use anything or anyone to meet your needs? Do you even believe that God knows all that you need even without you saying them out? God’s ways are beyond human comprehension. Take God as He is. Believe in God like a little child. When He promises you something and there is a delay in its manifestation, don’t lose hope – the answers will surely come because God cannot fail.

I encourage you this day to trust God like never before; He knows everything that pertains to you. If He used the ravens to feed Elijah, He will do much more for you. God is the same yesterday, today and forever!

And the word of the Lord came unto him saying, get thee hence and turn thee eastward and hide thyself by the Brook Cherith that is before Jordan. And it shall be that, thou shall drink of the brook and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there. – 1 Kings 17: 3, 4

Elijah obeyed God and went to the brook of Cherith, not reasoning what the outcome might eventually be. God delights in our total obedience to His commands and promises. He is happy when we trust Him unwaveringly without any iota of doubt.  Here again, we see another apt obedience in action.

One area where people get snared by the wicked one is through the sense of reasoning. Not necessarily deliberating over something but, analyzing its possibility and such an act displeases God. In Romans 8: 24 , the bible says Now hope that is seen is not hope, because who hopes for what he sees? Exactly, if you are seeing a thing, then there is truly no need hopping for it because, it is already with you.

Prophet Elijah’s obedience and trust in God is quite emulative. Imagine going to hide by the brook and having ravens (birds) to bring you food morning and night? He didn’t reason it out; or analyze the natural impossibility of birds feeding him but he chose to believe and obey God. How many of us take God for what He says, especially when such a thing defiles logical reasoning? In the case of Abraham, the bible tells us in Romans 4:3 “…Abraham believed God and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

If you must walk with God and enjoy His benefits, you must be ready to believe Him like a little child.  Children trust their daddy so much that, when he throws them up in the air, instead of screaming, they let out a beautiful smile believing that the daddy will never allow them to be hurt – God desires such an honest trust from us.

Elijah, without questioning the potency of God’s command went and hid himself by the brook and was duly fed by the ravens according to the word of The Lord. You see, God is faithful to all that He promises His children. He cannot say what He does not mean and He mean whatever He says. Whenever you begin to ask, how can this happen? You are allowing the voice of reason to silence your faith and once that is established, uncertainty and doubt will be developed.

Leave the ‘how’ for the Almighty God to handle. Yours is to believe and trust Him. He will never fail you.
